City of Carmine Park Committee Update

Playground Equipment, Bridge Improvements Coming
to Carmine City Park
CARMINE, TEXAS (May 3, 2009) -- By mid-summer
the Muehlbrad-Albers City Park in Carmine will be showing off new
playground equipment and a renovated bridge.
On April 13 the Carmine City Council approved a contract with
Regan Recreation/Regan Group LP for the installation of new
playground equipment.
Included in the new play area will be a triple slide, a curly
climber, a suspension bridge, overhead curved ladder, a loop climber
and much more. The
playground equipment is manufactured by Big Toys, Inc. and
installation should begin in June.
A new sidewalk will run from the pavilion to the play area.
New lighting installed by Moeller Electric out of Brenham
will expand the hours of enjoyment.
Boy Scout Troop #577 is helping with the renovation of the pedestrian bridge in the park. Joshua Weyand came up with the idea for his Eagle Scout Project. Joshua joined the Boy Scouts when he was in the first grade at the urging of his proud parents, Ricky Weyand and Julie Petty. When asked why he picked this project, Joshua explained that for him the Boy Scouts “stand for learning and helping others and that is why I chose The City of Carmine Park Bridge Project as my Eagle Scout Project. I was raised in this area and saw a need for the bridge to be redone. I enjoy sitting and having lunch with my dad in the park. We also have our family reunions there so the bridge is something I want other families to enjoy just as much as I have.” In early March, Joshua and his fellow scouts, Kyle Dougan, Sammy Zeiders, James Zeiders, Ryan Stein, Robert Macanally, Donavan Catron, and Davis Mayhew, removed the old planks from the bridge. The troop will return to install new planks after the iron is sandblasted and painted by Lawrence Von Minden. Several adults are supporting the Boy Scout Troop in their work. These include Ricky Weyand, David Mohr, Julie Petty, Wade Petty, Don Kocian, Lynette Williams, Mary Zeiders, Mike Macanally, Dewayne Catron, and Larry Mayhew.

The $75,200 park improvements are funded through private donations of $37,600 and a matching grant from the Land and Water Conservation Fund (A Cooperative Project for Outdoor Recreation) administered by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
